Autumn 2001
Lindsay returns to Scotland alone after the trip to Dublin and soon moves out of Auchengate in difficult circumstances. She and her best friend settle in Glasgow where they start university together.
They make new friends and throw themselves into student life, but then just as the first term comes to an end, Lindsay’s dad pays her a visit at her halls of residence.

Helen assures Tom she’ll look after him when they finally set up home at Auchengate and that she will never falter as a wife. In his reply, he tells her about another woman… Is there competition for his affection? And does he think she’s up to the challenge?
