Hi friends,
A midweek missive to invite you to our monthly Sunday group chat. Usually I fire out a poll to choose our topic but, this month, I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in wanting to talk about aggressions against women, girls and marginalised genders and how we individually or collectively resist them.
I wrote a bit about this on Sunday in a post that started out being about engine idling but became about the ways in which men intimidate and wield power over women in myriad ways. Times being as they are, I know many of us are fearful more broadly, too, and I think it’s helpful for us to feel safe in coming together to chat through how we’re managing the news cycle. Maybe this will lead us into more joyful territory, who knows! To join us, you need to be a paid Member, and at 8pm Sunday you’ll get an alert in the app or on the desktop version of Substack that the Chat is open. Then you’re welcome to pop in and out as you please until 9pm. It’s just like a giant pals’ WhatsApp group, really, and everyone is welcome.
I’m about to collect my daughter and her pals from their last day of school (I know, it feels incredibly early for us too, even though we’re used to a June finish) and head for a picnic and a play. I hope you’re having a fine enough day of it whatever you’re up to and that you’ll join us on Sunday night for some community feels.
Here’s a link to my Chat if you’re not familiar with that bit of things and fancy a snoop.
See you Sunday and - writers in The Chain - keep an eye on your emails for the Zoom link to next Tuesday’s pre-project call.
