Frame + Flow

One for writers, creative kin and solo business owners... When *you* are your brand

“It is an investment, yes. But I believe it’s an investment in yourself, in your creative capacity, your plans, your dreams and your goals.”

Hi friends,

This week, I’m joined by brand photographer

Considine from Studio Gently and brand designer from These Are the Days for a rich conversation that’s as much about psychology as it is about identity, photography and storytelling.

We talk about the emotional and mindset hurdles that often beset writers, creatives and solo (woman) business owners as they grapple with what it means to be a “brand” and the surprising ways that, once we overcome this, we can utilise its power to facilitate an easeful separation of self and “business” self.

“I think it’s fascinating… My personal lens on it is that - from a wellbeing perspective - I actually think it’s really healthy to separate you as a human from you as a business and your personal brand.”

Anna Considine

As one of their first Frame + Flow clients, we reflect on the creative process from beginning to end. We explore the value of connection calls, questionnaires and Pinterest boards to gain clarity as well as all the steps between those initial meetings and the final outcome (not to mention much-valued aftercare!).

Both Anna and Sarah dragged this stuff out of me. I didn’t find it easy to talk about my work in these terms!

The stuff I write and talk about, reflected back at me in titles

”We [newish solo business owners] are trying to get to grips with who we are and the place we take up and there’s a real value in having what you offer reflected back at you in this way. You can get very stuck in your own head when you’re pressing away on your own and can find it very hard to articulate our values and vision.”

I’d had some ideas about colour and font for my branding based on what I had cobbled together when I first launched…
We talked about representing the peaks and troughs of midlife in graphic form
